The Cambridge English team has published an article on getting started in ELT materials writing.
Katherine Bilsborough says, “If you enjoy writing materials, you might like to move into materials writing as a profession, either as a supplementing activity or by becoming a full-time freelance writer, working for ELT publishers.
As an English teacher, you are probably a materials writer too. Most teachers create material for their learners, whether to supplement existing resources or to replace a course book which isn’t appropriate for whatever reason.
What are ELT materials?
Materials come in many forms and are produced in digital or print formats, sometimes in both versions. Here is a list of some kinds of materials that you could write:
- lesson plans
- worksheets
- course books.”
