Future tenses for New Year’s resolutions

The Cambridge University Press ELT blog contributor Sophie Hodgson has published an interesting article on future tenses.

She says, “The New Year is almost upon us. What better time to reflect on our teaching approaches and to try out new things? In keeping with the season, I will be discussing how to explore the language for talking about New Year’s (re)solutions with students without using grammar jargon.

The opportunity to approach grammar without grammar

Present perfect continuous, gerund, prepositions: some students thrive on learning a language from a theoretical and structured point of view. Other students, including my younger self (I only developed my love for grammar during teacher training), shudder at the mere mention of infinitives and participles.”
