Vol. 4 Issue 35 – Conference: 3rd International English Language Teacher Educator Conference, India, March 16 – 18, 2013

 ELTWeekly Vol. 4 Issue#35 | August 27, 2012 | ISSN 0975-3036

British Council, EFL – U (English and Foreign Languages University), ELTAI (the English Language Teachers’ Association of India) and IATEFL (the International Association for Teachers of English as a Foreign Language) have come together again to host the 3rd International English Language Teacher Educator Conference. This conference will be held in Hyderabad from 16 – 18 March 2013. A number of experts, renowned international scholars and practicing teacher educators and policy makers will speak at the conference. We aim to reach 1200 private and public sector English language pre and in-service teacher educators and managers through this conference.

The conference will cover one of the most pressing policy issues faced by the Government of India, which is classroom exclusion and the introduction of inclusive practices. Every classroom or training room is a collection of diverse individuals. Teachers and Teacher Educators need to be aware of, and skilled in, making effective use of these differences and similarities between people.

This conference will allow an exchange of practices and views to explore India’s rich and diverse linguistic tradition which is all too often ignored in the English classroom, and attempt to address the challenge facing teachers in both pre-service and in-service teacher education programmes. This conference sets out to explore and celebrate the tremendous diversity of teaching and learning approaches available to teachers and teacher educators across South Asia. Invited speakers will present their experiences and offer ideas that have worked in other contexts to open discussions around what could be applied in similar contexts in India.
