Peter Roach is Emeritus Professor of Phonetics at Reading University. He is also the author of ‘English Phonetics and Phonology’, the fourth edition of which was published by Cambridge University Press in March 2009.
In this part of the lecture, Peter Roach discusses the importance of rhythm in comprehending English. He then goes on to discuss the evidence for and against the stress-timing theory.
