Article: Using data to inform your teaching

The Cambridge English blog has published an article on use of ‘data’.

The word ‘data’ is usually associated with scientists, computer engineers and marketing departments, but how can it benefit teachers? Tuesday’s webinar was hosted by Deirdre Cijffers, a teacher trainer who has taught English in seven different countries during her 14 year career. Deirdre explored how teachers can gather relevant data and use it to inform and shape their teaching.

Using digital homework platforms, it is now easier than ever to see how many students completed their homework on time, how successful they were as individuals or as a class. Such data can be used to help teachers as well as students: digital solutions provide students with instant feedback, whereas the teachers can use data to gain insight in their students’ habits and progress and maximise communication in the classroom

  1. I don’t think digital homework can work in an appreciating work in developing countries like India right now. It may take some years to make such concrete steps in this field.
