ABOUT KARKALA:

Karkala is a historic town in Udupi District, known for idol carving and cashew exporting. It is situated on the foothills of the Western Ghats, a bio-diversity hot spot. It is 54 kms away from  the Port City, Mangalore and 36 kms away from the Temple City, Udupi. These two cities have the well connectivity of the railways. Bajpe Airport is only 50 kms away from this town. The Holy places – Dharmasthala, Srigeri, Kollur, and Horanadu are within the radius of 65 kms.

The monolithic statue Gommateshwara, Chathurmukh Basadi, Sri Venkatramana Temple, St. Lawrence Church and Koti-Chennayya Theme Park are the important tourist spots.  Beedi rolling and cashew processing are the important economic activities which have been supporting thousands of families for their livelihood.

About the College:

Sri Bhuvanendra College, affiliated to the Mangalore University, is a premier institution in Coastal Karnataka.  The college campus is situated on the beautiful outskirts of Karkala Town, a place quite congenial for the higher studies. It has excellent educational facilities with well equipped laboratories and infrastructure. It has a good library with the collection of 80,000 volumes. A Post graduate is also functioning on this campus with Commerce, Economics and Mathematics.  Three hostels – two for men and one for women are accommodating 600 students.

About the Dept. of English:

The Dept. of English has been organising the seminars/workshops regularly ever since the Golden Jubilee Year of the college. So far five National Level activities have been conducted. Shivaprakash, New Delhi, Prof. Dilipkumar Basu, Delhi, Prof. Rajendra Chenni, Shimoga, Dr. Purushotham Bilimale, New Delhi, Dr. B.Y. Patil, Harihara, Dr. Nataraj Huliyar, B’lore, Dr. C. Naganna, Mysore, Dr. M.G. Hegde, Kumta, Dr. R.G. Call for Papers:

The teachers, research scholars and students are invited to send the papers on any of the following sub-themes:

  • Colonial Literary Discourses
  • Contemporary Critical Discourses
  • Dalit Literary Discourse
  • Feminist Discourse
  • Representation of Ideologies
  • Social Literary Debates
  • Cultural Tensions
  • Marginalized Voices

The paper may be presented on any one of the sub-themes with reference to any Indian English or any Regional book.

Paper should be a word file with 1.5 line spacing with 1.5” wide margin on the left and 0.5” on the right. Font size for the headings should be 12, sub-headings and text should be 11. Times New Roman font should be preferred. Paper should not exceed 1000 words. The cover page of the paper must contain the title of the paper, author’s name, address with mail id and contact no. references should be given separately at the end of the paper and arranged in the alphabetical order.

The paper may be mailed to the Seminar Coordinator on or before 10th  August 2015. The hard copy of the paper should be submitted at the Registration Counter on the first day of the seminar.

Registration Fee:

For Teachers, Research Scholars and Paper Presenters Rs. 100/-

For Students Rs. 50/-

The fee should be paid by cash at the Registration Counter.

A simple accommodation can be provided in the hostels for the out – station delegates on first come first serve.
